How do I know when to have a tree removed from my property?
This is a question we get asked frequently and, while the answer might seem obvious to some of you (when a tree has become a safety concern), it is the often overlooked potential dangers that can be easily missed. So, yes, you should call in a tree removal specialist for any emergency situations, such as a downed or leaning tree caused by a storm, especially near wires or your home, but how can you tell if a tree could be a problem during a future storm that should be taken care of now before it causes expensive damage?
Signs to look for when assessing if a tree should be removed:
Look for any dead tree branches - Especially any branch large enough to break off and cause damage by falling on your car or house, or even you, if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Branches can be far heavier than they may look from below and should be taken seriously!
Erosion or diseased root area - If the roots of your tree are not stable, then your tree may not be either. Look for any damage due to soil erosion or root disease as an indication the tree itself may become unstable and fall in the future, causing damage to anything in it's pathway.
A trunk that leans - It may look unique and give your property character, but a leaning trunk can indicate instability and the potential to fall during a high wind storm. Why take the risk? Even if it looks special now, it's not worth the potential for damage later.
Don't trust fungus! - You may see mushrooms and think it's just part of nature, but if you see them, or any kind of fungal growth, near the base of your tree, it may be time to call in an arborist to assess the situtation. Your tree may be decaying or dying within the inside without you even knowing it. Don't let a weakened tree cause future damage by falling on your property!
A falling tree is no joke. If you see any of the signs indicated above then please contact Forbes Forestry so we can assess what needs to be done, whether it's tree trimming to get rid of a few branches on an otherwise healthy tree, or a full tree removal, we will tell you what needs to be done. What may seem harmless now could lead to significant disaster later on, so prevention now can mean saving thousands of dollars in damages later. We take your safety seriously and so should you!
